What If It Was 2008 Tomorrow?!?

It was October 9, 2007. The Dow closed at 14,164.53. Little did anyone know that day that in precisely seventeen months (March 9,2009), the Dow would lose 53.78% of its value and close at 6,547.05.

That’s right, over 50% lost in the bluest of the blue chip stocks in under a year and a half. As you can imagine, the less than blue chip group did a whole lot worse. Now here we are today. Five and a half years after things bottomed out in 2009.On September 9, 2013, the Dow has made it all the way back and then some closing at 15,063.12. The Dow is up almost 2.5 times over the past five and a half years.

This, certainly, begs the question, “Are you prepared for the next market crash?”.

We all know that markets move both down and up. The average bull market is around 3 years. Our current bull market is five and a half years old. That should tell you something.

In 2008, people thought they were conservatively invested and then lost between 30% – 50% of their life’s savings. It’s possible that was you.

And you then vowed that you would never let it happen again. You promised yourself that if you could just get back to even, you would take a big chunk of your money off the table, protect it, and learn from your past mistakes.

Well, here we are. Five and a half years later. Have you followed through on your promise? Or have you once again, ignored your portfolio.

Odds are good you’re in the second camp, and that’s not good. This is a great time to sit down with a Retirement and Income Expert to take a hard look at where you are compared to where you want to be. Now it’s time to act, before the markets crash again and it’s too late.
