To enable someone to effectively train people in organisations, he must have similar experiences with those he trains. Aside from having a good academic background, the consultant should have the right skills and characteristics essential in finding out the real issues within organisations, planning and developing a customized program that works, conducting holistic training and coaching meetings, and inspiring individuals and teams to use the skills learned and implement and sustain changes.

In this article are some vital characteristics of an effective professional development training in Melbourne.

1. He should have the desire to help teams and individuals. Without the real desire to help people in organisations, it would be very difficult if not impossible to positively influence them. Even someone who has excellent academic credentials will fail if he doesn’t have the pure desire to help.

2. He must be able to ask the right questions. In the series of consultation meetings the consultant will conduct, he must be able to ask the right questions in order to get answers that would imply the real challenges, problems, or issues in organisations. Asking the wrong questions may confused or lead the consultant to the wrong direction. If the real issues in organisations are not correctly determined, the consultant may not be able to plot and develop an effective program that will address the issues.

3. He must be able to listen actively.

The simple capacity to show an individual or a group of people that you are completely listening without interrupting is an essential skill in itself. But this requires patience and the willingness to delay judgment. This skill proves that a consultant values what each individual is saying and feeling. If a consultant exhibits his willingness to listen, individuals and groups in organisations would be willing to open up and share their experiences, concerns, and challenges. The consultant would be able to see and understand people’s real needs if such things are expressed.

4. He should be able to give good feedback.
Feedback is important for trainees to know the level of their improvement. A good consultant must be able to know how to interpret the answers he’ll get with accuracy. He should be able to objectively summarize the information he gathered in a manner that adds value to his students.
